Brasserie Max in Covent Garden, London WC2

If you’re looking for a chic, stylish place to meet colleagues for a breakfast meeting or to catch up with friends over a coffee and a crunchy cookie, lunch, afternoon tea, fancy cocktails or pre and post theatre dinner, then Brasserie Max, part of the Covent Garden Hotel, has it all. It comes at a price, but the atmosphere, friendly staff and glamorous clientele, make a visit to the Covent Garden Hotel worth every classy minute. Attracting creative, media types, as well as the discerning international tourist and business traveller, the bar is always a hive of activity.

The tone is set by an ice bucket of Krug on the bar counter; however, the fine cocktails, old-school martinis and revived classics, such as the Covent Garden Mojito (with blood-orange puree), might just tickle the taste buds. The wine list is good and the food imaginative albeit a tad pricey. Platters (£25) come in Asian, Mediterranean, dumpling and mini-burger varieties.

If it wasn’t for the row of flags atop the door, you may be forgiven for missing the discreet entrance to the Covent Garden Hotel, part of the hugely successful, trendy Firmdale Hotel group. Flanked by fancy boutiques, along the cobbled Monmouth Street, you get a sense of well heeled, olde world London.

Brasserie Max, to the right of the smart hotel lobby, is situated in the heart of the theatre district and a short walk to the Royal Opera House, Soho and within easy reach of the city. It is surrounded by some of London’s best restaurants and bars, vibrant cafes and world class shopping.
