Museum of Brands in Notting Hill, London W11

Situated in the heart of West London, and often referred to as Notting Hill’s rebellious, bohemian younger cousin, Ladbroke Grove sits in the Royal Borough of Chelsea and Kensington. As the main route to the annual Notting Hill Carnival, the area and surrounding streets attracts a happy mix of social classes, ethnicities and age groups.

With frequent and reliable transport links, and plenty going on throughout the year, Ladbroke Grove and its surrounding areas are home to a number of attractions including the Museum of Brands, Packaging and Advertising.

This unique tourist hotspot allows visitors to embark on a nostalgic tour, which immerses them in over 200 years of British consumerism. Founded by Robert Opie, the museum features packaging from iconic products such as Kelloggs Cornflakes, well known games such as the family favourite, Ker-plunk, and childhood toys such as Space-hoppers – allowing guests to relive their inner child.

Appealing to visitors of all ages, the tour will allow you to embark on an exciting journey through time, putting the spotlight on brands, packaging and advertising. There are exhibits covering all decades from the Victorian era all the way through to modern-day marketing.

With each decade signalling significant social and economic change, the museum’s interesting visual collection features over 500,000 items – it’s also the largest of its kind in the world. Pretty impressive!

Bringing to life advertising from popular household brands such as Brasso, Schweppes and Bird’s Dream Topping, each piece of brand history tells a story and prompts memories from influential decades. Many visitors find themselves reminiscing about times gone by as they walk around the museum.

The museum is open Tuesday to Saturday 10am-6pm and Sunday 11am-5pm. You will need to purchase a ticket before entering the museum; prices start at £2.25 for children, £6.50 for adults and £4 for concessions. Family tickets are also available for £15.
