BBC Maida Vale Studios in Maida Vale, London W9

Maida Vale is one of London’s most idyllic and popular places to live. With its peaceful setting, picturesque buildings and graceful homes, the area is renowned the world over for its stunning tree lined streets, exquisite properties and the beautiful Grand Union Canal, which attracts traditional canal boats all year round.

Many of the buildings in the area exude classic Victorian and Edwardian style, capturing the history, character and charm of this incredibly affluent area. Retaining many of its original features, one of the Maida Vale’s most distinctive and well-known buildings is Maida Vale Studios.

One of seven designated BBC recording studios, the complex was first opened in 1947. Since then, it has been used by some of the music industry’s biggest and most influential artists, to record thousands of music tracks and drama sessions for major stations including BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio 3, BBC Radio 4 and BBC Radio 6.

The most famous recording ever made at the Maida Vale studios was by the band Snow Patrol, who played a live set from the studio as part of Fearne Cotton’s, BBC Radio One, Live Lounge show in 2009. This event celebrated 75 years of live music being played from the famous studios. Perhaps the most well known studio, Studio MV5 continues to accommodate some of the industry’s most popular and relevant acts, when they take part in the BBC Radio One’s ‘Live Lounge’.

The iconic studios feature a number of large recording spaces, many of which are the largest of their kind in the UK. Home to the BBC Symphony Orchestra and other well established musicians, the studios also provide a rehearsal and recording space for a wealth of vocal and drama groups.
