The Showroom Gallery on 63 Penfold St in Maida Vale, London NW8 8PQ

Established in 1983, the Showroom Gallery is a welcoming contemporary gallery whose focus is on introducing artists who have had little exposure in the capital to the London art scene. All of the work undertaken by the Showroom is non-profit. Their collaborative work between artists of different specialisms results in some truly interesting and thought provoking works. The Showroom was originally based in Bethnal Green, it quickly settled into its new Maida Vale home, where it has become a key part of the local arts scene.

Some of London’s celebrated artists held their first shows at The Showroom, including Sam Taylor-Wood, Claire Barclay and Eva Rothschild. The Showroom presents four unique new shows every year, and all aspects of this commissioning process are supported by the not-for-profit, to give those new artists both the training and the exposure they need.

More recently, the Showroom has started hosting monthly ‘Cinenova’ screenings: a film series intended to examine the relationship between the screen, the feminist, and contemporary artists. Tickets to this event are just £4, making it an affordable way to explore new multimedia art in the city.
