St James’s Church, Sussex Gardens, Paddington, London, W2 3UD

St James’s Church is a large Catholic church that can trace its fascinating history back to the early twelfth century. While the church received some considerable damage during the Second World War, it still stands strong, and much of its original architecture and features remain, including its stunning stained glass windows.

As a traditional working church, St James’s church conducts marriages, baptisms and funerals every month. Mass is also celebrated every weekday within the church at 6.30pm and a much fuller mass is said each Sunday morning at 10.30am. Sunday morning mass at the church is considerably enhanced by the church choir, which is considered to be one of London’s finest professional church choirs. For young visitors, the church also hosts a weekly Sunday school which is fun, as well as educational, and lasts around 45 minutes.

If you would rather not attend a formal Catholic church service then St James’s Church is still well worth exploration in order to enjoy the beautiful architecture of the building and to stand back and appreciate the the light refracts from the church’s famous stained glass windows.
