Subway Gallery, 1 Edgware Road Subway, Paddington, London, W2 1DX

You may well have heard of underground art, but the Subway Gallery takes this concept one step further, actually placing art underground. If you leave Edgware station and take the pedestrian subway below Edgware Road and Harrow Road, then you’ll find the Subway Gallery: a hidden corner of culture.

First conceived in 2006, The Subway Gallery is situated in a 1960s kiosk that was once a shoe repair shop. The space lends itself perfectly to becoming a gallery, allowing passers-by to interact and engage with modern art as they go about their everyday lives.

The Gallery is open between 11am-7pm from Monday to Saturday, you do not, however, need to enter the gallery to engage with the art, which is displayed in the large glass windows on all four sides of the gallery. If you are travelling to Edgware underground station or spending time on Edgware road then it would be a shame not to venture below the hubbub and experience this unique concept: there isn’t a gallery quite like this anywhere else in London.
