Tate Britain, Millbank, Pimlico, London SW1P 4RG

The Tate Britain gallery opened in 1897, making it the oldest museum in the ‘Tate Gallery’ network. The Tate Britain allows you to take a walk through over 500 years of British art and explore works by some of the most celebrated artists this country has ever produced. Its focus on British artists and their works is what makes the Tate Britain unique against London’s increasingly comprehensive network of wonderful art galleries.

At the Tate Britain you are welcome to explore the gallery at your own pace. If, however, you would like more information about the works you are viewing you can join one of the free daily gallery tours available. Designed for both individuals and small groups, these tours last around 45 minutes. Each tour is different; showcasing a new and exciting aspect of British art.

As well as the permanent exhibitions, this summer also sees special exhibitions of the works of sculpture Barbara Hepworth and ‘Fighting History’: a history of art being used to represent significant military events.
