Turner Prize Exhibition in Pimlico, London SW1P

Pimlico is one of central London’s best kept secrets. Despite its interesting architectural mix and residential feel, the area is only a stone’s throw away from attractions such as Sloane Square, Tate Britain, and Buckingham Palace.

Tate Britain, formerly known as Tate Gallery, is located on the outskirts of Pimlico. The world famous gallery holds the largest collection of British art in the world, featuring work from 1500 right up until the present day.

Each year, the Pimlico venue hosts the prestigious Turner Prize Exhibition – showcasing the work of the four artists that have been shortlisted for the award. The exhibition usually runs from the end of September until the beginning of January.

The Turner Prize is a contemporary art award that was set up in 1984 in order to celebrate developments in the field of contemporary art. The annual prize is awarded to a British artist aged under 50, for an outstanding exhibition of their work that took place in the previous 12 months. The award is thought to be Europe’s most important celebration of the visual arts, and is intended to promote the public discussion of new developments in contemporary British art.

The exhibition provides the perfect opportunity for the public to explore the work of the finalists and form their own opinions on the pieces that never fail to cause controversy and discussion. You can even share your thoughts on the work by filling in the feedback card at the end of the exhibition (and you are strongly encouraged to be as honest as possible!)
