Lord’s Cricket Ground in St John’s Wood, London NW8
- by CityWest Residential
St John’s Wood is one of London’s most upmarket and fashionable suburbs. There are a number of attractions in the area, including Regent’s Park and Lord’s Cricket Ground.
Widely referred to as the ‘home of cricket’, Lord’s is the home of Middlesex County Cricket Club, the England and Wales Cricket Board, and the European Cricket Council.
If you aren’t lucky enough to be visiting the ground to watch a cricket match, you can still enjoy a behind-the-scenes tour of the venue. During the tour, you will be shown around the Pavilion, the legendary Long Room, and the Dressing Rooms. You will also have the opportunity to sit on the seats that are usually occupied by the England cricket team and explore the J.P Morgan Media Centre where the press and media report on the game.
Lord’s Cricket Ground is also home to the MCC Museum. This is one of the oldest sporting museums in the world and boasts a collection that spans the full history of cricket – from its emergence as a major sport in the early 18th Century to the modern day.
The museum’s exhibits cover everything from items relating to the greatest players and events in the world, right through to the game’s grassroots, community cricket clubs. Undoubtedly the most famous exhibit in the museum is the original Ashes urn, which was given to the England captain Ivo Bligh in 1882.
Lord’s boasts two retail outlets – the Lord’s Shop and the Lord’s Cricket Store. In the main Lord’s Shop, you will find plenty of mementoes of your visit including merchandise, clothing, gifts and souvenirs. As London’s only dedicated cricket equipment retailer, The Lord’s Cricket Store offers a huge range of products and brands that cater for all levels and age groups.
