The New London Synagogue, 33 Abbey Rd, St John’s Wood, London NW8 0AT
- by CityWest Residential
The New London Synagogue is an impressive building which dominates the St. John’s Wood skyline. First constructed in 1881, the grade II listed building is among the most architecturally impressive in London.
The New London Synagogue is a fine example of traditional Victorian architecture. Built in traditional red brick, the pillars and other detailing are highlighted in white limestone. For those interested in either Victorian architecture or religious architecture and iconography, the New London Synagogue is certainly worth a visit if you are in the St John’s Wood area.
The entrance consists of three high arches, with tall arched windows dominating the front of the synagogue. Inside, the building is light and airy thanks to the huge number of windows, arranged in a series of high arches - a recurring theme in the design of the synagogue.
This is a busy and popular synagogue with a large gallery to allow for a much larger congregation. Guests are warmly welcomed.
