Westminster Cathedral, 42 Francis Street, Victoria London SW1P 1QW

Not to be confused with the more-famous Westminster Abbey, Westminster Cathedral is London’s principal Roman Catholic Church and a beautiful cathedral that has the honour of being the only example of neo-Byzantine architecture in London.

Westminster Cathedral is a wonderful place to visit, particularly if you are interested in architecture, history, or religious iconography. So many mosaics and marbles are used inside the cathedral that 129 types from 25 countries on five continents are included.

Westminster Cathedral is most famous for its choir school and choral tradition. This is the only Catholic cathedral in the whole world, including those in Rome itself, where both vespers and mass are sung every day and the quality of that singing is truly remarkable.

Access to Westminster Cathedral to enjoy the frescoes and windows, or to attend a church service (including listening to the beautiful choir) is free. If you’d like to climb the Cathedral’s bell tower then a £5 charge is applied. This is an add-on well worth paying for; the views of the capital from the top really are spectacular.
